This is my kinda media review log, where I write my thoughs on the things I consume. I'm not much of a critic, this is more just a place to revisit, or recommend, the stuff thats touched me.
My favs:
My Favorite Movie - "My Own Private Idaho" 1991 Gus Van Saint
Its funny, I first watched this movie by chance on a plane, choosing it at random from the from the "American Movies" catalogue. I think me going into it blind was an important part of my enjoyment. Its weird, unrelentingly so, and I love that about it. Everything is off-kilter, the plot, the dialogue, it was wonderfully surprising in the sea of samey Hollywood movies. Its also beautiful, the film adding a warmth to the visuals (I know, another Gen-Z fetishizing retro aesthetics), the music sparse yet comforting, and the characters emotional and tender despite the "awkward" dialogue—I relate to it more than typical polished, witty movie dialogue. River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves make a great acting pair, and they're gay in this (well maybe only one of them).
